Finding the Fosse
In 1259 Henry III allowed the building of the wall and fosse around Tonbridge, the wall never happened but there was a bank and ditch.
These photos show what remains of the ditch and bank from the Slade and round the edge of the old market site.

The fosse is apparently visible up to 10 feet high in the Port Reeve's House garden.
I have heard bits about part of the graveyard on the edge of Bordyke being part of the ditch and people remembering a pond there ?
